Upward Registration form click here. What Upward BelievesUpward is a parachurch organization which currently partners with churches in over 40 denominations to share the gospel with children and their families. All churches entering into a partnership with Upward are required to sign our Ministry Agreement which includes the following: We believe the Bible to be the inspired, authoritative, Word of God. We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons - the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory. We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful people, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential. We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life. We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life, and they that are lost unto the resurrection of eternal punishment. We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus ChristAbout Upward Upward is an evangelistic sports ministry specifically designed for kindergarten through sixth grade boys and girls that promotes salvation, character, and self-esteem in every child. In addition to basketball, Upward offers cheerleading, soccer and flag football programs to complete your Upward ministry. Upward provides opportunities for all believers, no matter what denomination, to become meaningfully involved in the ministries of your church. They will have the opportunity to pray for your program, coach a team, referee a game, share a devotion, and develop relationships in order to open avenues of ministry to the people of your community who will participate in your program. Upward is committed to seeing your ministry thrive. We provide leadership training conferences to equip and empower your team to effectively conduct an Upward program. The service provided continues throughout the season. Our staff is trained in all aspects of Upward and is prepared to answer your questions. Available through our toll-free number, 1-800-585-4721, our staff has one goal in mind: freeing you to do the ministering. If your church has a desire to do whatever it takes to equip leaders to introduce children to Jesus Christ by implementing sports ministry, Upward wants to partner with you. Request free information or contact a Regional Representative about starting this ministry in your community today! First Baptist Church Batesville offers Basketball for boys and girls (K5-6th grade and 7th and 8th grade boys) and Cheerleading for girls (K5-6th grade).

Life Classes Help Us Grow in Christ - Life Classes

The Bible tells us that Jesus' disciples "devoted themselves to His teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer" (Acts 2:42). Those who knew Jesus continued to learn, to teach, to pray and to mentor one another so that their faith would take root and grow to maturity.

Jesus does not want our relationship with Him to be limited to membership in His family. He has given us tools and means to learn about His life and how we should live, and to communicate with Him, so that our relationship with Jesus will grow in maturity over time For us today, the Bible itself is a textbook for the Christian life. Prayer--simply talking to God and listening for His response--is also available to us.

At First Baptist, we offer many opportunities to grow in maturity. Sunday Bible Study (Sunday School) is a core program at our church. Every week people gather to read and learn from the Bible. There are also many Life Classes (discipleship classes) for all ages--some study specific books of the Bible and others are topical in nature.

GROW: Outreach Teams that Win

GROW was designed to be a fun outreach ministry that our church folks can look forward to! "GROW" is an acronym for "God Rewards Our Work." "GROW" works to cultivate commitment among those who are willing to be involved in outreach once a month. As involvement increases, commitment grows.

With different levels of participation, GROW involves more of your church members in outreach. Participants can be involved in outreach once a month through visitation, letter writing, or phone calling. Church leaders are busy, yet very likely to commit to once-a-month outreach through "GROW."

You may participate today by letting the church know of a person or family that needs a church home or needs Jesus Christ as Savior. Just click on the link:I Know A Prospect !

G.R.O.W. Teams

Jesus issued the first command in Matthew 4:19

When He saw Simon Peter and his brother Andrew fishing on the Sea of Galilee. Jesus said, "Follow Me, I will make you fishers of men."

NEWS!
GROW Ministry Meetings will be on Tuesdays at 6:30 pm* in the Fellowship Hall. The first GROW Meeting will be Tuesday, September 4th. GROW will minister to those who visit our church, a Sunday School class, in the hospital, at home sick, in the nursing home, or spiritually sick (lost). For more information on how you can be a part of GROW go on line at www.fbcbatesville.com or call 662-563-7655 or ask your Sunday School teacher.

*Some exceptions found on page 3.

G.R.O.W. Teams & Assignments

Purpose

The objective of the G.R.O.W. (God Rewards Our Work) teams is to involve 100% of our membership in an inreach and outreach ministry. G.R.O.W. is part of a Three Dimensional Strategy to help members and leaders fulfill the Great Commission:

Reach people for Christ and church membership
    Teach people God's Word
    Minister to people's needs

Priorities

The first priority is to share the Gospel of Christ with every contact.
The second priority is to first time visitors to FBC or Sunday school.
The third priority is to previous visitors/prospects to FBC or Sunday school.
The fourth priority is to the members of FBC who have missed three consecutive Sundays - MIA's.
The fifth priority is to the members who have not been to FBC in months - POW's.
The sixth priority is to special ministries needs. Examples:

First Contact Ministry - a ministry designed to discover, locate, and minister to expectant parents and families with babies up to 12 months of age
    Revival contacts both pre-revival and post-revival follow-up

Procedures

First Time Visitors
First time visitors will be delivered a small loaf of bread on the Tuesday following their Sunday visit. This visit is nothing more than that. Deliver the bread, say "Thanks for visiting with us hope you enjoy the bread," and leave. If the people are not home, give the bread to the neighbor and report your visit.

Second Time Visitors

Second time visitors will receive a personal visit on the Tuesday night following their second visit. They will be given a "Visitor Welcome Packet." Second time visitors are obviously somewhat interested in FBC so this visit should be an informative visit about our church. Team members making these visits should know what is going on at the church and how to answer possible questions about our church.
Second time visitors will receive a follow-up phone call the next week. By this time, they will have had a chance to look at the "Visitor Welcome Packet," and may have some questions. Team members who make phone calls should be informed about events at the church and be prepared to answer questions about FBC and its ministries. Team members who make phone calls will ask the visitor if they would like a minister to visit them. A report sheet will be filled out on each call.

MIA's - Missing In Action

These people are active people in FBC who have for some reason missed three consecutive Sundays. These people need to know they are missed and should receive a phone call or card.
A list of MIA's will be provided every Tuesday and team members will be provided sample letters and questions to ask.

POW's - Prisoners Of World

These people have been taken prisoner by the world and for some reason have not attended Sunday school in months. Whatever the reason, these people need to be contacted and loved.
A list of POW's will be provide every quarter and team members will be provided sample letters and questions to ask.

A Normal GROW Night*
Every Tuesday will be a specific G, R, O, or W night. Members of the G-Team will attend the first Tuesday, R-Team the second Tuesday, the O-Team the third Tuesday, and the W-Team the fourth Tuesday. It will then begin again with the G-Team. Fifth Tuesdays are testimony nights and are for anyone to attend.

People

In order for our GROW teams to be effective we need people -YOU!

GROW Leaders

We need four GROW leaders from each adult Sunday School Class, a G-leader, R-leader, O-leader, W-leader
GROW Leaders will help organize and communicate to their team on their specific GROW night
GROW Leaders will help recruit Team Members to be present on their GROW night
GROW Leaders are team Members too

* Exceptions:

Preschool Sunday School leaders and Team Parents will participate in GROW as a team the first Tuesday of the month.

Team Leaders are Team Members too

Team Members

Team Members are asked to COMMITT to one Tuesday a month for one year. If a few do it all, the few get burned out; if ALL will do a little, ALL will be blessed.
Team Members can serve in many ways:

    Visitation

     Letter Writing
    Phone calling
    Praying
    Administrating
    Setting-up
    Preparing
    Childcare
    Food preparation

We are asking for twelve nights a year. God can't bless our work if we don't do the work and God will not reward our work if we have no workers. If you cannot attend on your Tuesday, participate next week. Your continued participation is important!
Please prayerfully consider your commitment and role in the GROW ministry.
    Please take your COMMITMENT seriously.

School Extra! For Teachers What is EXTRA?

EXTRA! is a weekly supplement to the teaching plans provided in LifeWay Sunday School printed resources. LifeWay has provided EXTRA! since 1991 as a value-added service to church leaders who are interested in customizing their teaching plans based on current events or taking advantage of newly available teaching options that were developed after the printed curriculum was published. Simply put, EXTRA! is great way for teachers to stay on the cutting edge with their lessons.

With the onset of Sunday School for a New Century Resources in Fall 2000, EXTRA! was expanded to include Family Bible Time EXTRA! to help families learn from the Bible together at home, Family Bible Study Pastors' EXTRA! to assist pastors with sermons complementary to Family Bible Study, and Student EXTRA! to help teenagers continue their Bible study in the week following Sunday School.

We hope you will find the entire family of EXTRA! a great help to teachers, pastors, church staff members, families and students.

How often is EXTRA! updated?
EXTRA! is updated each Wednesday afternoon. EXTRA! is posted 10 days prior to the Sunday it will be used. Back issues of EXTRA will be available online only for registered users.

Where can I get help with EXTRA!?
The individual EXTRA! helps can be accessed at http://www.lifeway.com/myextra. For online and email help with EXTRA!, please contact the LifeWay Help Center at http://support.lifeway.com/

How may I download and use the EXTRA! supplements?
The ability to download EXTRA! helps is provided by request of our friends who like to customize their lesson plans in their own word processing programs.

The download option icon appears throughout the site to indicate that the EXTRA helps can be saved on your computer. If you use the Internet Explorer browser, clicking on the icon will open a new browser window along with the File-Save-As dialog box. Completing this step will cause the file to be saved as a TXT file. You may then open the file with your word processor. (Note: Some word processors may default to looking for files with a file name ending in ".doc". Look for an option to search for "Text Files" or "All Files".

We regret that Netscape users may not be able to use this download feature in the manner described above. We hope to remedy this situation soon.

Whether you use Netscape or Internet Explorer, you may find it more useful to highlight and copy the EXTRA! helps displayed in your browser window, and paste them directly into a new word processing document. This usually preserves formating that makes the document more attractive and readable.

  Navajo Tacos
(na-va-ho)

Many Native Americans live in the Grand Canyon area. A popular meal is the Navajo Taco. It is made with Indian Fry Bread, which is similar to pita bread or a tortilla. The warm Fry Bread is topped with beans, salad ingredients, cheese, and sour cream.

Navajo Fry Bread

What you need:
2 cups flour (a little extra for rolling out dough)
1/2 cup instant non-fat dry milk
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons shortening
3/4 cup water
Salad oil

What you do:
1. Mix together flour, milk, baking powder, and salt. Cut in shortening until coarse crumbs form. Slowly add water, stirring with a fork until the dough holds together. Place the dough on a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth (2-3 minutes).

2. Divide the dough into six equal portions. Cover each in plastic wrap. Roll out each portion of dough to make a 6-to-7-inch circle.

3. Heat ¾ -inch salad oil to 375 degrees in an electric skillet or a 9-inch skillet. Cook each dough circle until golden brown, turning once after about 1½ to 2 minutes.

4. Keep rounds warm by wrapping them in a paper towel and placing them in a 200-degree oven.

5. Add taco toppings for a tasty treat: chili beans, grated cheese, lettuce (sliced thinly), tomato (chopped), green onions (chopped), salsa, and sour cream.

Eat and enjoy!

Help the Growth Along

Growth seems to happen when we least expect it. The growth chart on the door frame in your kitchen tracks the growth of a child and they are grown before you know it. Dare we mention the tape measure around our waists that shows growth we don't want? What about the mature response you receive from someone you have been mentoring? What about the growth in missions maturity of your congregation as they begin to care more about the physical and spiritual state of the world?

Growth in missions can be seen as gradual or immediate. Even within the gradual or immediate movements there are secondary stages that can happen as well. Perhaps you have seen the start of a new WMU group or organization or a new ministry in your church. Congratulations! Where do you go next to see that the new start matures?

Try these:
-Be sure that every member has a subscription to the magazine that is for their age group. What are they? Older preschoolers need to receive Share (quarterly) from their Mission Friends teacher. Younger GAs need Discovery (monthly). Older GAs need GA World (monthly). Acteens need The Mag (monthly). Women on Mission need Missions Mosaic (monthly).

-Every leader or teacher needs teaching/resource materials. Mission Friends teachers need Start (quarterly). GA leaders need Aware (quarterly). Acteens leaders need Acteens Leader (quarterly).

-Send notes of encouragement to the leaders. Offer to listen and help as needed. Pray regularly for them.

-Find training events that will help the leaders understand their role.

-For ministry groups point them to resources that will help them refine their knowledge and skills.

For coed organizations
The leaders of Children in Action need Missions MatchFile (quarterly). Youth on Mission leaders need Youth on Mission Plan Book (annual). Adults on Mission need the Adults on Mission Plan Book.

Pointing individuals to helpful resources will help them grow in knowledge and in understanding just what following Christ in missions is about.

Truths We Hold Dear - What We Believe

The following truths represent the church's position on essential beliefs that we hold dear:

About God - God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three persons: the Father, the Son, and Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God.

About the Father - He is all powerful, all knowing, all loving, and all wise. He reigns with providential care over the universe and the flow of human history goes according to His purposes and plan.

About Jesus - Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus has eternally existed and became man at His incarnation. He lived a sinless human life and offered himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He bodily arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven's glory and will return again someday to earth to reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

About the Holy Spirit - He is the third person of the Trinity. He guides men into all truth, exalts Christ, convicts of sin, righteousness and judgment, cultivates Christian character, comforts believers, bestows spiritual gifts by which believers serve God and seals the believer unto the day of final redemption. His presence in the lives of believers is the assurance of God to bring us into the fullness
of the stature of Christ.

About Scriptures - The Bible is God's Word to us. It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is inspired by God, it has salvation for its end and is truth without any mixture of error.

About Human Beings - People are made in the image of God and are the supreme object of God's creation. All of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called sin. Sin separates people from God and causes many problems in life.

About Salvation - Salvation is God's free gift to us, but we must accept it. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting Jesus Christ as God's offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin's penalty. When we turn from our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus in faith we are saved. Eternal life begins the moment one received Jesus Christ into his life by faith.

About Eternal Security - Because God gives us eternal life through Jesus Christ, the true believer is secure in that salvation for eternity. If you have been genuinely saved, you cannot "lose " your salvation. Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by the self-effort of the Christian. It is the grace and keeping power of God that gives us this security.

About Eternity - People were created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separate from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life. Heaven and Hell are real places of eternal existence.

About Baptism by Immersion - We believe that scriptural baptism must be: (1) by being completely immersed under the water and (2) after salvation. Jesus was immersed and all baptisms in the New Testament were by immersion. These two facts sets the standard for baptism today. Baptism has no saving power but is the first act of obedience symbolizing (1) the believer's faith in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus, (2) the believer's death to sin and resurrection to walk anew in Christ, and (3) the Christian's belief that he will die, be buried, and that Jesus will resurrect him from the dead.

About the Lord's Supper - The Lord's Supper is a symbolic act of obedience whereby believers remember the death of the Lord Jesus and anticipate His second coming. The bread is symbolic of His body and the juice represents His blood.

About Tithing - We believe in giving the tithe - ten percent of our gross income (not net income) - as the biblical standard of giving. The tithe is to be given as an undesignated offering to the "storehouse" ministry of a local church. According to the Scriptures, we are to give cheerfully, regularly, systematically, proportionately, and liberally for the advancement of the Redeemer's cause on earth.

About Evangelism - It is the duty of every born again follower of Jesus Christ and of every church to endeavor to make disciples of all men everywhere. It is the command of Christ for every believer to seek constantly to win the lost to Christ by personal effort and by all other methods in harmony with the gospel of Christ.

About the Church - A New Testament church of the Lord Jesus Christ is a local body of baptized believers who are associated by their common faith and fellowship with Jesus. A local church is to observe the two ordinances: (1) baptism and (2) the Lord's Supper. The church should exercise their God-given gifts and extend the gospel to the ends of the earth. The church is an autonomous body serving under the Lordship of Christ. All members are equally responsible as they serve with the scriptural officers of the church, the pastors and deacons.

About Christian Unity - To live in harmony with other believers is clearly the teaching of the New Testament. It is the responsibility of each believer to endeavor to live in fellowship with each member of the congregation. It is further the responsibility of each member to bring all gossiping and backbiting to an end.

The Model foe the Task --Jesus ChristJesus was the Leader sent from God to do God's Purpose in salvation. His leadership was shared; He empowerd and commissioned the twelve. His leadership was visionary; He saw the world in need of God's grace. His leadership was prophetic; He called all people to accoutability. His leadership was personal; He related to individuals and to the crowds. His leadership was a model; He washed the disciples' feet. His leadership was humble; He encouraged the poor and those who hurt. His laeaderhip was honest; He refused Satan's temptations. His leadership was not legalistic; He forgave a woman caught in adultery. Jesus was the world's greatest Leader! Our call is to lead as Jesus, our Lord and Savior, led His followers while on Earth. No one can be the spiritual savior of another, but we can lead as He led. This requires:A call from God to ministry.A willingness to minister. An understanding of the task to which we have been called. An awareness of the environment for ministry.A commitment to grow and serve. This site is under contrution.

Our Beliefs - Who We Are

Our church is a community of believers with Jesus Christ as its head. We seek to love, respect and care for one another as a demonstration of our love for God.

Our outreach is to those who have no church home. Many in our area are disillusioned with religion. They have felt the sting of legalism with its impossible demands. Some have seen hypocrisy. Others have had no religious background and therefore see Christianity as irrelevant. The missing element has been healthy relationships with mature believers in Jesus.
